comment

The Amsterdam Stock Exchange was built between 1608 and 1611 near the Dam directly over the Amstel. Its courtyard was enclosed with a long stretched gallery. The coat of arms with the three crosses of St Andrew dominates the view of the north facade chosen by Job Berckheyde. While, during the afternoon, hundreds of merchants from all over the world conduct their business in the heart of the commercial and financial centre, oranges and newspapers are also offered to the Stock Exchange, as, in the front building to the right, are paintings.
