There are two types of images of which Städel’s painting may have been a copy (?): a profile portrait of a lady who in the early 19th century was considered to be Hélène Fourment (copy at the Louvre, Paris, inv.-no. RF.2122) or her representation in Rubens’s family portrait (now at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, acc. no. 1981, 238). According to a (presumed) preliminary study, at least five copies have bee preserved.
